Visiting Ottawa, CANADA

The Capital of Canada is Ottawa. It is a two hour drive from Montreal where I am based. I was excited to go and check it out and the Australian High Commission (Embassy) is also located there. The first thing I noticed, is it reminded me a little of Canberra because it was just so clean. Maybe it’s a trend in all British Empire countries, that the capitals are clean, as though the royal family live there.

Driving around Ottawa certainly felt like I was going to visit royalty. There were three huge looking castles that I fell in love with. The castles are their parliament office buildings. They are so beautiful and worth checking out. Don’t worry, I snapped some shots of my time in Ottawa and I really enjoyed the visit.¬†There were some great restaurants and shops to go visit too. We ate at this cool seafood restaurant called the Fish Market,¬†and we were very impressed with their shrimp appetizers. I will definitely be going back.

I went to a pastry shop and they were selling Obama Canada cookies in the shape of a leaf. That is the symbol on the Canadian Flag. I am really not sure of the significance of the leaf so if any Canadians are reading this, feel free to fill me in. I love the red and white colours. Funny that I’ve settled in a country with the flag being Red and White. It is a sign because I have always been drawn to those colours. Probably why, back in Australia, I was a fan of the Football St George Dragons and in AFL, the Sydney Swans team (full credit to my friend Kos for this).

There were little markets set up that had the famous Canadian Maple Syrup and other clothing and market flowers etc. Driving around the city was pretty easy and not daunting. Thanks to the GPS, I feel confident driving anywhere now.

Here are some photos below I snapped up of my visit to Ottawa.
